  • I am just playing with this. Trying to figure out how to post my weblogs on facebook. Anybody know how? or have any advice?
  • Happy Fathers Day.

I know I am a day late, but better late then never is what I hear!

Dad, thank you so much for loving me and being there for me. You are the best. And I know we don't always see eye to eye on everything, but that is what makes out friendship strong! Love ya.

023 And to our childrens wonderful daddy. Thanks for being here for them, teaching them, playing with them. And for loving their Mama!
Btw, this pic was taken at a recent coconut party that took place n front of our house a few weeks ago. It was a hot Fri afternoon and supposedly coconut milk is very refreshing and quenches your thirst like none other. Personally I would rather stick with water. So here are a few more pic of the party. The kids did not care for it either. They think it is so cool to drink out of a coconut but one sip usually does it!

We have yellow coconuts and green coconuts. There is a difference (but don't ask me what) then there is also a coconut that you use to cook.  None of them taste remotely like the coconut we buy in the store, which I like!

  • picture post ahead!!

we spent a day at Leogane soon after we were here. There is no guys there right now, so Loren was maintenace man for a day. We didn't get everything done, but we did get all the door knobs changed, put water in the batteries and fixed a few other things here and there. The children and I just hung out with the little girls, played, talked and I even got a back massage! ;) Brooklyn loves it out there. Lots of girls to play with and never boring!

Last week, early Tue morning we headed out for a long bumpy trip to Jacmel. There were 2 wells to drill. The rest of Tue and most of Wed were spent drilling the first and worst well. The ground was really rocky and not nice drilling at all. But the 2nd one went really good on Thur and we were headed back home again by 10:30.  The 2nd well we drilled was at a Catholic organization. They have a home there for people with cancer, HIV, TB, orphans, and malnurished. It was very intresting. There were 6 sisters (nuns) there that ran the place then some other haitiens to help out. There were around 200 patients there.  It really was a sad place, yet everyone seemed so happy.

  • We are here!

Actually more like we were here 5 days ago already, but internet and time have kept me from updating. We are pretty much settled in and trying to get into a routine. The weather has been very different then what we thought was normal for here. Lots of wind, and quite a few rain showers in the middle of the day.

Today I made a batch of bread, baked cookies, and made popsicles for th ekids an their mom! She gets over heated sometimes and has to indulge in some thing cool!   after the kiddos wake up we are planning to head for the local Wal-mart  to stock our cupboards. The kids think there is never anything to eat around here.

Here are a few pictures of our house we now call home. 092  Front view

Yes, our house is quite a bit bigger then what we had at home. I am not used to working in a kitchen this size.

As of right now we can not get on Facebook, so I will try to keep you all updated here.

  • Packing packing packing!

We are busy packing, going out to eat with friends, family gatherings and all the last minute things. Today in 2 weeks we should be in the air headed south.   Not sure which one fits best.

We are changing our email address, so if you want to hear anything from us, you need to email us so we have your address!

Today I am meeting 2 girlfriends for brunch, lunch and maybe supper if we can't get done talking! Ok maybe not! I doubt our babysitters would appreciate that.  Thanks Frieda!
Tomorrow 3 sweet ladies from Kokomo are coming for the day.  We are going to pack some more, eat, talk and chase kids!   Charlene, really wish you would be here to make the packing party complete!

  • Would someone please clean out the cobwebs on here for me? This site has been gathering dust far too long.

As for what we have been doing with our lives?? A little of this and a lot of that!!

In Feb we spent 2 wonderfully glorious weeks in Florida vacationing!!! The children are the perfect ages for sand and sun, so everyone was happy!  Makes a big difference. 2 years ago Landon was 5 months old and hated both. So we were all miserable.
While in Fl we got a phone call asking if we would be willing to serve in Haiti for a few years. Gave us lots to think about while we basked in the sunshine. So we prayed and asked God to show us what we are to do. And all the doors kept opening and everything kinda fell in place, so we took that as God's sign. As of now we are planning on leaving the middle of May sometime. We haven't set a date or bought tickets yet.   So now we are trying to sort thru things, what to keep, throw away, give away or take along. How much can we live without? Hard question!
We will be a part of Blue Ridge International for Christ. It is the same place we were both at for service many years ago. (at least it seems like many years!) Loren will be on the well drilling team. So along with sharing Living Water with them we also want to give them fresh drinking water!  So we would appreciate your prayers.

And maybe while I am at it I should change my background since Spring is finally here! -I think!

  • Christmas & Cookies

Christmas with my family is history for another year. We were all together for butchering, so we went ahead and had our C-mas feast and gift exchange.  So we plan to spend C-mas day in Ohio this year with Loren's family.  My family did something different this year.. the adults had to make their gift! It was very intresting, and amazing what everyone came up with. While the gift making was going on everybody was muttering and saying not again, BUT we all had so much fun we decided to do it again! Only this time we drew names a year in advance, so there is no excuse for not having our gifts done.  If you are up to a challenge, go for it.  Here is a pic of what everyone got.

The 2 youngest cuddlies! Kaylee is 6 mons and Dawson will be 1 in a week or so.  With 6 grandchildren in the house it gets pretty nerve racking at times, but they have lots of fun. As long as they don't all start screaming at one time. Their oldest uncles/daddies were the cause of most of the screaming.  Hopefully they will grow up someday

And now for the cookie baking.... don't ever attempt to make cut-out cookies with a 2 yr old and a 4 1/2 year old, unless you have a LOT of patience and love BIG MESSES! The kids enjoyed it but I don't think I will be doing again anytime soon. We didn't do any fancy decorating, just the sprinkle thing.

  • Our Summer

I can't believe summer has fled and fall is here.  I love fall, actually almost a favorite, but the thought of what comes next always makes me wish summer would have stayed longer.

Our summer went by extremely fast. We have been very busy camping,  Otto camping, Youth camping, Hostetler camping, Miller family camping, Young marrieds camping  yeah and now we are camping again this weekend with friends from church. Camping is our main source of entertainment in the summer in case you havn't figured that out yet.  So here are a few pictures of our summer and the camping!

Otto family camping. Camping with 6 grandchildren and 14 adults takes quite a bit of food and organization. But we had lots of fun. Corn holes tournaments,-won by Nate and Janae.  playing keep away in the water with a football- wore me out. It got a little rough, one person got skinned an another scratched!  Many walks for Grandma and the stroller!  Is it against the law for Grandmas to tell the grandkids "no" or "not this time"? Everytime she left the camp there were half dozen begging to follow!

Dad practicing-notice how he pinches his mouth!  And Mom-the organizer- planning Christmas already!

These 3 make quite a team! Not quite a year between them.

    Camping with the Youth

We camped at Hocking Hills State Park. If you ever need a good place to hike, this is it.  The beauty of it all never ceases to amaze me.  Lots of water falls, rock formations, & canyons. A beautiful place in the fall with all the changing leaves. Cause of Ike we got lots of rain and almost canceled the trip, but Saturday was sunny and SMOK'IN HOT! There was not air movment and very humid. But down in the canyons it was nice and cool.  I didn't know how hiking would go with 2 little one, and had planned on staying at the camp. But they talked us into taking them and the kids loved it. I didn't think they were old enough to climb the hundreds of step and we didn't want to carry them all the time, since I barely got up the hundreds of steps.  We had lots of willing helpers, but most of the time they didn't want to be carried anyway. They cried when we left, they weren't done hiking yet!

Last night she called me to say they were going to having a sleepover at Esthers house, play games, watch a movie and eat popcorn. Do you think she is spoiled? I do!  And Mister Buster (as Brooklyn calls him) is wondering around looking for his long lost paymate. I am hoping he will take this oppurtunity to start talking. B talks for him all the time!

  • Do you have idols in your life?  What are some idols in your life?? I have been readin thru Isaiah the last while, about all the problems they had with worshiping idols, false gods, etc... And so I have been trying to find and weed out the idols in my life. Is an idol something I worship? something I spend to much time with? Something I put before God? My questions went on and on. So I got good ole Websters out to see what they say.

Idol: 1. an image or other material object representing a diety and worshiped as such 2. (in the Bible) a deity other then God. 3. a person or thing devotedly or excessively admired.

This gave me a lot to think about. My first thought was my computer. I know I spend more time on the computer then I do reading my Bible. Does that make it an idol?? And as I was looking round my house to see what my idols were, I wasn't sure if I really had any. My house is not exactly the nicest on the block and I don't worship it, so i guess I don't think of it as an idol.   So i am still pondering this whole "idol" thing. I would love to here some comments, maybe I am not looking in the right place. Set me straight please!

This week I have been busy canning/freezing food. I still have marinara sauce and maybe grape juice then I will call it quits.  So far I have done:

    4 batches strawberry jam

mashed and froze 12 qu. of strawberries

    18 qua green beans-froze

    2 bushels apples for applesauce

    21 pints corn- froze

    18 pints salsa

    14 pints zuchinni relish

    1 bushel peaches

No, that wasn't all this week. I am not sure if I got it all or not.  I try to write it down for a record the next year, but somethings get missed.

we will be camping this weekend with my family @ Mississinawa Lake. I am looking forward to it. Seems like everytime my family has been together this year we were hustling around getting ready for wedding. If you want to see pic of Nathan and Janae's wedding visithttp://moments-shannonsphotography.blogspot.com/  She did an excellant job on the pictures.

I had the priviledge of seeing my childhood best friend for 24 hours last Thursday. And yes we walked most of our school & teen years side by side.  We didn't always agree on everything but who does????   It was the shortest 24 hours I have had in a long time.  After 2 LONG years we had much to catch up on, discuss, and digest. Now she has gone back to Lao and I probably won't see her for another 2-3 LONG years. Unless we hit the jackpot and can afford tickets!

Charlene- I know you are going to read this!!!  So I just want to thank you again for stopping in so we can catch-up, at least in part.

    Praying that God help:

    you reach the natives,

    be a light,

    touch a childs heart

    and go forth with courage.

Can't forget this picture! We didn't have anyone to take it so we used the good ole timer!  I won't say how many we took, but actually got one that wasn't to bad.

  • Summer is HERE!!

Spring has sprung.... now summer is here.  Yes, I am quite pleased about that. I can take 100 degrees anyday over -20.   We have been having beautifull weather. Just perfect for the camping trip that has expired. Ok maybe it could have been a little nicer over the weekend, but I won't complain.  Dillion State Park and hail fit into the same sentence real well. We had just arrived when the rain poured down with pea sized hail. Didn't last more the maybe 10 min and it was all over.  Sat. afternoon we were once again graced with rain and wind. We weren't there at the time, but I heard there was fear the camper awnings were prepaing for lift-off!  We had lots of fun, doing the normal camping things. Eating, chatting, roasting marshmellows, (thanks to Eric) boating, sunning, eating, playing games, biking, and eating somemore.

One Sunday night a few weeks ago. Erics invited our young married group from church to Apple Valley  for a picnic. The children loved playing in the sand and water. We ahd the boat and jet ski there for some added excitement.  I think we will have to do that again!  There were 14 adults and 13 children so there was always someone to chase after and drag out of the water.

Those are just a few of the fun things that have been happening around here the last few weeks. Looks like our summer holds lots more. As of right now, it is raining,  and thundering andddddddddddd I should get of the computer before I get struck with lightning!!

  • Lucy????

Do I love Lucy?? I don't know, she was before my time. The reason for this layout is the lady screaming "MORE CHOCOLATE"

And now since the Big Day has long gone I think it is time to update, but I don't have much to say.

Gutter business is busy as ever, so Loren is working, working and working... get the pic.

I am playing house, tending my flowers, scrubbing duds, feeding my munchkins, reading blogs, and anything else I can find to do.

A few weeks ago an order of plants arrived via mail. The box and packing peanuts kept the children entertained for hours. Maybe I will just wrap them up for C-mas this year.  arkansas 048  arkansas 051

We are youth sponsors, so we had the privilege of having supper at the Hee-Haw Ranch. Chili soup, cornbread, bbq pork sandwiches, were on the menu for the cowboys and girls! We ate out of tinfoil pie plates and drink was served in pint jars.  We all piled on a wagon for a hayride thru the country then topped the evening with apple dumplings and ice cream.

I don't have lots of time, so I just posting lots of pictures. They had a lovely wedding, very small, organized, very Esther!  There were 260 people at the wedding, about 100 less then planned for, so we had lots of food left. But that is better then not enough.  We had lots of fun getting ready, it got a little wild, dizzy, and maybe silly sometimes, but those times are all stored in our hearts, memories to look back on and cherish.

Esther and Brandon-  I wish you both many wonderful years. To love and cherish each other.     I know you won't be reading this right away, since you are "cooling off in Jamacia"

  • Happy Birthday, Brooklyn

    My little Princess

                                                           blizzard 202

Hard to believe my little girl is 4 already.  Starting sunday school is the first important thing on the list here. Most of her friends already go, so it really important!    As you can see she loves playing dress up, that and pollys are her favorite past times.

Nothing really exciting going on here today. we are having a small party  tonight.  I am trying to be halfway creative in making a cake. I finally searched the web till I came up with something pretty simple, so we will see how it turns out.

  • The Battle is on again!

My friends, the bluebirds are back, a sure sign spring is on the way.  b 002  b 001

Now the battle between the bluebirds and the starlings is on again.  This morning as I was watching the birds, I was reminded  of the battle that rages daily for my soul.  The starling was desparately trying to get into the birdhouse.  As long as the starling (satan) can get a twig in there he is happy, but the bluebird will not share with the starling. Likewise God will not share with Satan. So i am reminded again to give God my whole, entire heart, and not keep a little itty bitty piece for myself.

I know I can't believe I am posting again so soon.  But I do believe some people are jealous of this snow, so i will show you how deep it really is!

  • Xanga??????

Why do I even bother with xanga?? I hate updating which explains the great length between posts. But I love staying in touch with long lost friends that I rarely if ever see.  So i guess that means I should do my part and update too.

We are busy like everyone else. Even though we have been staying home. We decided against going to the sunny south this winter  in hopes we will get to see other parts of the world sometime this year. So yeah, nothing really exciting has happened around here since my last post (2 months ago)

We have been going thru a financial class with some people from church. We are taking the Dave Ramsey class, Financial Peace University. We are really enjoying it. We are learning to live a new way, or should I say spend money differently. No more credit cards! Cash only, and a debit card if you must. We are living for day we will have our house paid and are debt free.  So that takes one night a week.

Another night is usually spend babysitting youth  (sorry youth, I had to say that)  Ok not babysitting, we are youth sponsers this year and really enjoy it. Just makes us busier then normal.

I have also started baking breaad again for my DH. I am not a pro at all, so all you bread bakers out there, I will take all the tips I can get. I made white bread about a month ago for the first time and it turned out great. But we prefer wheat bread much more, so I tried that again today and it flopped AGAIN!  I have no idea why, but maybe we just have to eat unhealthy white bread instead of wheat!  Grrr.

I have found a hobby in the past few months. Which I am very excited about, my only other hobby is seasonal. So I find it hard to occupy myself all winter long.  I have taken up digital scrapbooking with Creative Memories program.  There are lots of things i like about this program and some I don't like, but I guess tht is probably the way it is with anything.  I have done all of Landons pic. and am now trying to catch up with Brooklyns.  i will share a few pages here.landon-Page021.jpg picture by barneyjo2

News Flash****** It is a whopping 65 degrees out side. I even hung laundry out and have some windows open.    It is very windy though. I made a few trips outside to gather my runaway laundry.  I was majorly getting my hopes up that spring was just around the corner. THEN,,,, I looed at the radar and saw we are in for some major rain, snow, possibly ice!So my hopes were dashed. Why did I look at that dumb thing anyway????

  • After Christmas weight loss plan!

How do you get rid of those extra pounds picked up over the holidays??  Dad came up with a great way to shed lbs.  Cut firewood!!  It was a family day in the woods. The men went earlier, then about lunch mom, girls & grandkids, took lunch- hot dogs! Roasting them over the fire. Brooklyn thought it was kinda like camping! There were 3 chainsaws running, 2 people slitting, and about 5 stacking. The rest were chasing rabbits  or watching grandkids!  The feeling of a huge stack of wood is one of accomplishment. I guess if you don't burn wood you don't really know the feeling.

As children we spent many hours playing, sleeping, chasing rabbits, building things out of sticks, blazing new 4-wheeler trails, etc. And now it is still the place we all want to go for hotdog roasts, wood cutting & any other reason we can think of.  The inside was fixed wi th 2 bunks, used to have a wood stove and lots of mice! Still has those!  Otto C-mas '07 058  Otto C-mas '07 057  Thats all for now.
